My First Amigurumi: A Chick with a Lot of Meaning π₯π
Share
The Beginning of a Dream
When I was first starting out in crochet, I would spend hours browsing patterns on Pinterest. That's when I found this chick with an egg for a hat, and I loved it. From that moment on, I knew I had to give it a try.
When I saw it finished, I felt a great satisfaction knowing that my hands had created something like this. At the beginning, like everything, there were some mistakes, but over time I refined my techniques. Now, every time I finish this amigurumi, it brings back beautiful memories and the satisfaction of seeing my progress.
This chick is very special to me because it was my first amigurumi and with it I learned to read patterns and face my fear of failure. Up until that point, I had only made scarves and hats, which were simpler projects. I always wanted to make amigurumis, but the fear of making mistakes held me back. This little chick symbolizes the step I took to overcome that fear and move forward with my venture, so that more people could have creations made by my hands.
My Story with Crochet π§Άπ
My interest in crochet began when I was nine years old. I was intrigued by a special needle that my grandmother had, and she began teaching me. I became obsessed with the technique from the start and began making scarves and small projects to practice. I really owe my love for this craft to my grandmother.
Since I decided to start crocheting, amigurumis were always in my vision. I loved stuffed animals made with this technique and I decided that, one day, I would be able to make them too.
There were many difficulties at the beginning, especially when reading patterns, as most were in English or Vietnamese. However, over time I learned to identify the symbols and immerse myself in Vietnamese symbology to understand them. In fact, the chick pattern was one of them.
To those who feel that crochet is difficult, I say: that's normal. I've given classes and picnics where I teach this skill from scratch and I understand how challenging the process can be. But nobody is born knowing. I was also bad at the beginning, but with practice everything improves. My advice is to start with simple projects and little by little advance to more complex ones. You can do it! πͺ
Amigurumi Creation Process π₯βοΈ
Materials used:
-
Lana copito
-
Silicone filling
-
2.5mm crochet hook
When I first did it, it took me about 3 hours to complete. Today, with a year's experience, I can do it in an hour.
At first, I had a hard time with some parts of the pattern, but I always followed my grandmother's tutorials and advice. Over time, every detail became easier.
I really enjoyed the learning process. Many family members shared tips with me on how to improve and that helped me a lot.
The Meaning of This Chick π
I always make one of these chicks when I change my technique: I adjust the way I hold the wool or the needle, I try new tensions in the stitches... Every time I make this amigurumi, I see my growth and skills reflected.
In addition, this chick has become one of the best-selling products of my business. Knowing that people like what I make with my hands motivates me to continue creating and, perhaps in the future, to bring out my own original collection.
When I compare my first amigurumi with the ones I make now, I feel nostalgic. It was a hard process, since I was just learning, but I'm glad to see that I haven't stopped making them and that I'm still evolving.
